Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Dumfries and Galloway College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

At increased zoom levels in landscape orientation on mobile devices, the expanded navigation menu results in the header occupying a significant portion of the viewport. This may obscure underlying content and impact users’ ability to access and interact with the page particularly for users who rely on zoom to read content. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow)

Some pages include embedded maps provided by OpenStreetMap. These maps are not fully accessible to all users, as they rely on visual interaction and have limited support for keyboard navigation and screen readers. This may make it difficult for some users to access location information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content) and 2.1.1 (Keyboard).

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We plan to address the issues with landscape orientation and alternative text by September 2026.
We are also investigating more accessible solutions for embedded maps. In the meantime, we will provide directions and alternative formats on request.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Some linked content may include PDFs that were created prior to this date.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards or have an accessible alternative.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are taking steps to improve accessibility by resolving issues with the expanded navigation at increased zoom levels, auditing and improving alternative text for images, and investigating more accessible approaches to map-based content, including alternatives to OpenStreetMap.
